1. Illuminating example
2. “Nutgraph”—present your central thesis connected to the example
3. Go into detail why your thesis is true

This creates narrative tension.

Words to avoid

• Avoid adverbs
• Avoid adjectives
• Weak verbs: “has” and “is”

Writing heroes

These are some of the people whose writing style I like. When left to myself I write stiffly. These here make writing seem fun (and reading even more). In the spirit of Steal from your heroes, I constantly look for ways to rip off them.
