up:: The Internet MOC When it comes down to it, the internet is a wire. It connects your computer with servers. In the case of The Web those servers contain website.
Basic parts
- 🗼The last mile: The connection to the user by cables or towers.
- 🗄️ Data centers: Servers that store data and host online applications.
- 🦴 The backbone: Long-distance connections that connect data centres and consumers.
Who runs it?
No one. But there are several organisations providing standards:
- The Internet Engineering Task Force maintains technical standards.
- Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is in charge of providing domain names (like google.com) and IP addresses.
