Reflection

A great book. Short, succinct, punchy.

A lot of what he says really hits home. Resistance is real, it wants to stop you from creating. Because creating is your divine calling. It matters. That’s why we need to lift our eyes beyond resistance, to God, where creativity flows from and who is our ally in our work. The comparison to war is apt. Our art matters. There is a force set against us creating but all we can do is show it the contempt it deserves and do our art.

Notes

  • Resistance rationalises.
  • The Professional is aware of his own capacity to self-sabotage.
  • The cardinal virtue for the artist is Contempt for failure.
  • if you were the last person on the earth, would you still do it?
